Maruti Suzuki YFG (Creta-rival) SUV spotted testing: Launch later this year

Maruti Suzuki is working on a slew of facelifts and all-new cars for the Indian market. While the brand has also introduced a number of new cars including the new XL6, Baleno, Celerio and more. However, the most-awaited car from the brand is the all-new mid-size SUV, which will take on the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. This will be Maruti Suzuki – Toyota’s model that will sell through the outlets of both the manufacturers. A new set of spy pictures show the updates of the new YFG.

This is the second time we are getting to see the new Maruti Suzuki SUV, which is codenamed YFG on the roads. Last time, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota’s test mules were caught testing together.

The new test mule is similar to the last one and continues to get heavy camouflage. The Maruti Suzuki YFG will offer a split headlamp set-up as well but the layout will be different. The new images also reveal the alloy wheel design of the YFG. The alloy wheels look very similar to the Suzuki Vitara.

TNGA Platform

The new vehicle will be based on Toyota’s low-cost Daihatsu New Generation Architecture (DNGA). It is derived from Toyota’s TNGA, which underpins cars like Camry in India. Think of DNGA as the low-cost version of the TNGA. Same as the VW Group’s MQB A0-IN is derived from the expensive MQB A0.

Coming to the engines, there is no confirmation on the same. However, the vehicles are likely to get a strong hybrid system developed by Toyota, The power unit will be a 1.5-litre petrol engine. As always, Maruti Suzuki will aim for a high-fuel efficiency, which can sway a lot of buyers from cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and more because of the skyrocketing fuel prices.

Both the cars will arrive one after the other around the festive season. This will be the first Toyota and Maruti Suzuki product that will be made at Toyota’s plant in Karnataka.

Toyota’s model will look different

Since both, models will be designed from the ground up, apart from the engine, features, and platform, there will be no similarities between them. Unlike the previous models like the Glanza-Baleno and Urban Cruiser – Vitara Brezza, the new mid-size SUVs will look quite different from each other.

This will be the first time that Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are developing a new vehicle together. In the future, both the global manufacturers are likely to bring in a number of new products for the upcoming markets like India.
