Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, is reportedly planning to introduce multiple new SUVs including the new Brezza and the new mid-sized SUV this year. New reports have also suggested that the manufacturer is also working on a new Coupe SUV and the new Jimny lifestyle SUV.

The new Maruti Suzuki Brezza will be launched in the country by April 2022. Moreover, the company will unveil the new mid-sized SUV, whose name we don’t know yet, before the end of 2022. It will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and the MG Astor.

According to reports, the new mid-sized SUV will be based on Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform that is also used with the Raize and the new Avanza. Maruti Suzuki will reportedly develope the new SUV in cooperation with Toyota at Toyota’s Bidadi plant. The new SUV will reportedly be manufactured on the same production line that produces the recently discontinued Yaris sedan.

The new model will have two versions for both the companies. Both variants of the new SUV will come with the body panels and features but, the designs and interiors will be different. The joint development and production will help Toyota and Suzuki to significantly reduce the development cost. Hyundai and Kia has also followed this strategy to develop the Creta and the Seltos that share the same platform, engine options and even features.

The company is expected to replace the S-cross with the new mid-sized SUV. However, the company has not made any official statement on it yet. The new model is said to be powered by Toyota’s petrol-hybrid powertrain. The vehicle will also get petrol engine option, that could either be a 1.5L K15B engine with mild-hybrid system and the 1.4L turbo petrol with SHVS mild hybrid system.
