[ad_1]
2021 was a quiet year for Maruti Suzuki. However, it will no longer be like that. In 2021, they have already launched Celerio CNG, Dzire CNG, new Baleno and will also be launching a lot more vehicles. One segment where the manufacturer lacks behind is SUVs. However, that will change now. Maruti Suzuki is working on 6 new SUVs for the Indian market. Here, is more information about all of them.
2022 Brezza
The first SUV that Maruti Suzuki will launch is the new generation of the Brezza. It will be based on the current platform only but will be heavily redesigned. There will be no change to the powertrain. So, it will be a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine which is now expected to get improved mild-hybrid technology. The manufacturer is also expected to finally replace the ageing 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with a 6-speed torque converter unit. The Brezza will no longer carry the “Vitara” moniker. It will be launched by mid-2022.

Maruti Suzuki YFG
The YFG is the biggest launch for Maruti Suzuki. It is a new mid-size SUV that has been co-developed with Toyota. It is expected to be based on Toyota’s DNGA platform and will also be assembled at Toyota’s manufacturing plant. It will also come with Toyota’s hybrid system. However, the engine is not yet confirmed. The new SUV is expected to be called Vitara and will launch during the festive season this year.
Maruti Suzuki YTB
The manufacturer is also working on a new compact SUV. It has been codenamed YTB and will share a lot of parts with the Baleno. So, expect it to be based on the Heartect platform and the engine will also be the same as the Baleno. The design is expected to be a coupe-SUV, just like the Futuro-E concept that we saw at the Auto Expo 2020. The YTB will be positioned lower than the Brezza and will launch next year.
Jimny 5-door
Maruti Suzuki is working on a 5-door version of the Jimny. They are not launching the 3-door Jimny in India because it is not practical and won’t be able to take tax advantage. There will be no major change to the exterior of the SUV. The engine is also expected to stay the same. There would be 4×4 and a low range gearbox on offer.
Maruti Suzuki YY8
Till now, it seemed like Maruti Suzuki is not interested in electric vehicles. However, that is not true, the manufacturer is working on a new electric mid-size SUV. It is being co-developed with Toyota. They are using a new electric skateboard platform called 27 PL. Initially, the batteries will be sourced from BYD and eventually, TDSG will be providing the batteries. There will be two battery sizes on offer and the driving range would be around 400-500 km. Maruti YY8 is expected to get launched in 2025.
Maruti Y17
Maruti Suzuki is also working on a new 7-seater SUV that could also be sold as a 6-seater. It is expected to be based on Ertiga’s platform. The Y17 could replace the XL6 in the line-up. It will be going against MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700. The new SUV is expected to get launched in 2024 or 2025.
