Toyota generated a lot of hype when the Hilux was announced for the Indian market. The Japanese manufacturer has still not announced the pricing of the Hilux. We are expecting that the price unveil and the launch will happen in April now. Test drives should also start during the same time. Now, the new pick-up truck has been spotted at a dealership yard. Here, are a few images of the Toyota Hilux.
In the images, we can see two Hilux, the first one is finished in white, while the other one is finished in red. Other colours on offer are Gray Metallic, Silver Metallic and White Pearl. The booking amount for the Hilux was set to Rs. 1 lakh. Toyota has still not announced the prices of the pick-up truck officially. However, as per a leaked document, the prices of the Hilux will be close to Jeep Compass.
Toyota no longer accepts bookings

The Japanese manufacturer stopped accepting bookings for the Hilux on 3rd Feb. This was done because of the production constraints that Toyota was facing. These constraints are because of the semiconductor shortage that the entire world is facing. If the manufacturer had kept accepting bookings then the waiting time would have increased significantly and people would have lost interest in the Hilux.
Engine and gearbox
The Hilux will be offered with only one diesel engine. It is a 2.8-litre diesel engine that produces 204 Ps of max power and 500 Nm of peak torque. Yes, the number seems familiar because this is the same engine as the Fortuner. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
It is a lifestyle pick-up truck so people will be using Hilux for off-roading too. So, Toyota is offering a 4×4 system, electronic differential lock, downhill assist control, auto limited-slip differential and a 4X4 Electronic Drive Switch.
Moreover, there is also Toyota’s A-TRAC system which stands for Active Traction Control. What it does is continuously monitor the traction of the tyres and as soon as detects slip, the system applies the brake on that wheel and the power is transferred to other wheels that still have more grip.
Feature list
The Hilux comes with a pretty decent feature list which should be enough for most people. There is a multi-function steering wheel, push-button to start/stop the engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, cruise control, multi-information display, automatic headlamps, leather upholstery, LED projector headlamps etc. There is also a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Hilux is massive
Toyota Hilux measures 5,325 mm in length, it has a width of 1,855 mm and a height of 1,865 mm. It weighs a massive 2.1 tonnes. The ground clearance is 216 mm and Hilux has a wheelbase of 3,085 mm.
The pick-up truck is based on IMV-2 platform which is also being used for the Toyota Innova Crysta and Toyota Fortuner.
