Royal Enfield commences deliveries of 120th year Anniversary Limited Edition 650 Twins

Last year, at EICMA, Royal Enfield unveiled the 120th-anniversary editions of their Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650. Now, the Chennai-based manufacturer has started deliveries of the special edition motorcycles. Ace shooter and Olympian Gagan Narang took delivery of his 120th-anniversary edition of the Interceptor 650 on 21st March. Malayalam film actor and director Dhyan Sreenivasan also took delivery of the limited edition Interceptor 650 last week at the company showroom in Kochi.

Royal Enfield had a limited production run of these motorcycles. A total of 480 units was produced 120 units were allotted to the Indian market. The sale was done via an online first-come-first-serve basis. All the units were sold within the first 2 minutes. The ‘001’ Limited Edition Interceptor 650 was bought by Rear Admiral of the Indian Navy, Philipose G Pynumootil.

120th Edition Royal Enfield 650 Twins

The 120th Editions of the 650 Twins were made to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of Royal Enfield. The manufacturer launched their first motorcycle in November 1901 at the Stanley Cycle Show in London. These motorcycles are special because they get a unique paint scheme and have a limited production run.

The motorcycles are finished in black chrome, to complement the paint scheme, the rest of the parts such as handlebar, exhausts, engines and other elements have also been blacked-out. They also come with the full range of official Royal Enfield accessories such as flyscreens, engine guards, touring or bar-end mirrors, heel guards, a sump guard, a brown coloured seat etc. The most special thing about these motorcycles would be the fuel tank. It has been hand-crafted, have a die-cast badge and they also have pinstripes that are done by hand.

Mechanically, the motorcycles stay the same. So, they come with a 648 cc, parallel-twin engine that is air-oil cooled. It produces 47.45 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 52 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox that comes with a slip and assist clutch. The engine gets a counterbalancer which makes it one of the smoothest engines in the segment. Then there is the 270-degree crank that gives the 650 Twins their unique rumble.

Braking and suspension

Braking duties on the Interceptor and Continental GT 650 is done by 320 mm disc in the front and a 240 mm disc at the rear. Royal Enfield offers a dual-channel ABS as standard. The front tyre has a 100-section whereas the rear tyre is a 130-section. It comes with spoked wheels with tube-type tyres from Ceat.

Royal Enfield is using telescopic front forks and a pair of shock absorbers for the rear that are pre-load adjustable and gas-charged. The chassis is a double-cradle frame that was made by Harris Performance of UK. The motorcycles are on a heavier side because they weigh 202 kgs without fuel.

Prices

The price of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 starts at Rs. 2.85 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 3.10 lakhs. The Continental GT 650 starts at Rs. 3.02 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 3.26 lakhs. All the prices are ex-showroom.
