[ad_1]
Mahindra has been rigorously testing the new generation Scorpio for a couple of years now. There have been numerous sightings of the new SUV. Now, the 2022 Scorpio has been spotted in Manali. The SUV looked close to production spec but it was still camouflaged. The launch of the SUV is expected sometime this year.
The video has been uploaded on YouTube by The Beardo Guy. The video is recorded from inside a car and we get a good look at the upcoming Scorpio. Mahindra has decided to retain the boxy shape of the Scorpio which is a good thing. But they did increase the dimensions of the SUV. So, even in the spy pictures and videos, the test mules look bigger than the current Scorpio. There are also rumours that Mahindra will not discontinue the current Scorpio.

Still on body-on-frame chassis
The 2022 Scorpio is also based on a ladder frame chassis but it has been reworked to provide better handling dynamics and ride quality. So, the Scorpio should be more comfortable for the occupants when compared to the current Scorpio.
Engine options
Just like the Thar and the XUV700, the Scorpio will also be offered in two engine options. There will be 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both are shared with the XUV700 and Thar. However, they have been retuned.
It is being said that the diesel engine will be offered in two states of tune. The lower state of tune will produce 130 bhp of max power while the higher tune will produce 160-170 bhp of max power. The lower state of tune will be offered only with a 6-speed manual gearbox while the higher tune will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The torque outputs of the engines are not yet known yet. The same is also true for the petrol engine. But it would be turbocharged as well as get the direct injection. We are expecting it to have a power output of around 160-170 bhp considering Thar’s petrol engine puts out 150 bhp.
There would be a proper 4×4 system with a low-range gearbox. It would also get different terrain modes that will adjust the torque distribution according to the mode that you are in.
Looks butch!
The design of the 2022 Scorpio is very imposing, it will definitely have some road presence when it launches. In the front, there are new headlamps with twin projectors and a six-slat Mahindra grille. It will also get Mahindra’s new twins-peak badge. Moreover, the foglamps will also be LED with a C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamp around them.
On the sides, there is a new set of alloy wheels with large wheel wells. The alloy wheel size will be 17-inches while the tyres would measure 245/65. At the rear, there would be new tail lamps that are inspired by Volvo’s SUVs.
Features
Mahindra has also added a lot of equipment to the Scorpio now. It gets an electric sunroof, cruise control, multi-function steering wheel, multi-function display, new instrument cluster, sequential turn indicators, push button to start/stop the engine, automatic climate control, keyless entry and much more.
