Toyota will release a new SUV called the Urban Cruiser Hyryder on July 1. The automobile manufacturer has finally released the first teaser of the upcoming car ahead of its global debut. The teaser video has revealed some parts of the SUV’s front, side, and rear profiles.
Toyota Hyryder Hybrid Features
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has received a Glanza-like front grille, with the chrome strip connecting and splitting the twin LED DRLs. While the upper half of the grille seems blacked-out, the SUV seems to have a solid air dam flanked by LED headlights in the front bumper.
The SUV has the ‘Hybrid’ badge on the side of the front doors. Apart from this, the teaser video revealed a chunky wheel arch cladding, and the presence of a 360-degree camera as well as turn indicators mounted on the ORVM (outside rearview mirror). The SUV sports sleek wrap-around taillights with dual inverted C-shaped LED light guides on the rear. The LED light guides are connected by a chrome strip.
Powertrain specs
The Toyota SUV will be coming with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with both mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrains. The engines will produce output of 103PS for the mild-hybrid and 116PS for the self-charging hybrid system respectively. While the strong-hybrid setup will be a front-wheel drive only, the mild-hybrid-equipped variants will also get a first-in-segment AWD option.
On the other hand, the mild-hybrid powertrain of the Hyryder will be coming in 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic transmissions. For the strong hybrid powertrain, it will only be available with an e-CVT setup.
Meanwhile, Toyota will be starting series production of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder from August, with a market launch likely in the same month or early September. The SUV is expected to be priced Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. It will be competing agaianst the likes of Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, and its Maruti Suzuki counterpart.
