Mahindra will launch the Scorpio N on June 27th. This does not mean that Mahindra will discontinue the current Scorpio. It will stay on sale and will be renamed. It will be called Scorpio Classic. Mahindra is already testing the Scorpio Classic on our Indian roads. It is not yet clear when the homegrown manufacturer will launch the Scorpio Classic. But there is a new spy shot of the SUV.

The image is from a video that was uploaded on YouTube by Motor Vikatan. The Scorpio was parked at Mahindra’s Research Valley. There were some other test mules also that we can spot in the background. There was a test mule of the Scorpio N and also of the upcoming XUV300 EV. The Scorpio Classic had minimal camouflage only on the bumpers.

It seems like the Scorpio N will come with a new front grille that will be inspired by the grille of the Scorpio N. Moreover, it looks like there is a new front bumper. The projector headlamps and alloy wheels are still the same as the current Scorpio.

The engine is also expected to stay unchanged. It is not clear whether Mahindra will discontinue the lower variants that get the lower state of tune and only sell the mid and top-end variants or not. These variants come with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that produces 140 PS of max power and 319 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to only a 6-speed manual gearbox. In the lower state of tune, the engine produces 120 PS of max power and 280 Nm of peak torque. It is offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

We do not expect major changes to the interior or the features. So, it will continue to come with a automatic climate control, cruise control, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic headlamps, projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, LED Daytime Running Lamps, multi-function steering wheel and much more.

Mahindra has already revealed the Scorpio N. It will sit between the Thar and the XUV700 in Mahindra’s line-up. It will still be based on the ladder frame chassis but Mahindra has reworked and increased the dimensions of the SUV. So, the ride quality should increase slightly and the space for the occupants would also increase.

Unlike the current Scorpio, the Scorpio N will be offered with a diesel as well as a petrol engine. The diesel engine will be offered in two states of tune whereas the petrol engine will be offered only in a single state of tune. Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. There will also be a 4×4 system with terrain modes on offer.
