Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of the new-gen Scorpio. Their previous two SUVs, the Thar and XUV700 have been a huge success in the Indian market. The homegrown manufacturer has also started releasing teasers on its social media platforms. The latest teaser seems to be about the safety rating of the upcoming SUV.

The teaser says “The new Mahindra SUV makes even the crash dummy feel safe” which basically points to the good safety rating of the SUV in the global NCAP crash test. This is a good thing because the current generation of Scorpio did not do well in the crash test. It scored 0 stars.

According to media reports, the 2022 Scorpio has achieved a 4-star rating in the crash test and it is very close to achieving 5 stars. However, the crash test rating has not been confirmed by the manufacturer.

Mahindra’s latest vehicles are quite safe with a good safety rating. The XUV300 scored a 5-star rating for adult safety and a 4-star rating for child safety. It comes with cornering brake control, seat belt reminders, dual airbags, all four disc brakes, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and a panic braking signal as standard. On the higher variants, you get ESP with Roll-over Mitigation, Hill Start Assist, front parking sensors and 6 airbags.

The Thar got 4 stars in the global NCAP crash test. To retain the rating, Mahindra had to discontinue the variants that came with side-facing rear seats. Despite being a more lifestyle vehicle, the Thar comes with the decent safety equipment as standard. It gets ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, dual airbags, seat belt reminders, roll cage, ISOFIX child seat mounts, panic braking signal and vehicle overspeeding warning. On the higher variant, you get ESP with Roll Over Mitigation.

Then there is the XUV700. It also has a 5-star crash test rating. Mahindra offers dual airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, ABS with EBD etc. as standard. On the higher variants, you get ADAS safety features, Driver Drowsiness Detection, up to 7 airbags, cornering lamps and much more.

2022 Scorpio to be feature loaded

The new-gen Scorpio will be very well equipped when compared to the current generation. It would come with LED projector headlamps, LED fog lamps and C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps in the front. At the rear, there are Volvo inspired LED tail lamps.

On the inside, there is dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, push-button to start/stop the engine, cruise control, multi-information display, multi-function steering wheel, tyre pressure monitoring system, touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, roof-mounted speakers and much more.

To be offered in two engine options

The 2022 Scorpio will be offered in two engine options. There would be a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. As of now, we only know the power outputs of the diesel engine but the petrol engine is also expected to be quite powerful. The gearbox options would be a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The lower variants would get Thar’s tune of diesel engine. It produces 130 PS of max power whereas the higher variants would get the XUV700 MX variant’s tune which produces 155 PS.
