2022 Honda City e:HEV Hybrid explained in a video

Honda has unveiled the India-spec City Hybrid, which will witness an official launch in the Indian car market in May 2022. The Honda City Hybrid will be positioned as the new top-spec version of the regular version of the car, which is available with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel versions. Honda has also released a new video, which explains all the changes and additional features in the City Hybrid.

Unlike the Thai-spec version of the Honda City Hybrid, the version destined to be sold in India misses out on the RS trim. Instead, Honda has introduced mild changes to the exterior of the car. The City Hybrid gets blue highlights around the Honda logo at front and rear, a new mesh grille below the heavy-looking chrome garnish at the front, revised fog lamp housings with fins, and a boot-mounted slim spoiler and e:HEV badge on the boot lid. It retains the all-LED headlamps with daytime running LEDs, front LED turn indicators, LED fog lamps, LED tail lamps, shark fin antenna and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Additional features with the City e:HEV

On the inside, the Honda City Hybrid retains all the comfort and convenience features and the dual-tone black and beige leather upholstery with gloss black, silver and faux wood highlights, unlike the all-black interior of the Thai-spec City Hybrid. The only changes introduced in the cabin are the inclusion of an electronic parking brake and a revised layout for the 7-inch full-TFT instrument console, which now gets graphics for Honda Sensing, fuel efficiency and range, G Meter, Eco-Drive indicator, fuel efficiency trip-wise history, tyre pressure monitoring system and acoustic vehicle alert system.

The biggest highlight of the Honda City Hybrid is its powertrain, which is a combination of a 1.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson petrol engine paired to a lithium-ion battery and a two-motor e-CVT system comprising of a traction motor and a generation motor. The City Hybrid features three driving modes – EV drive mode, hybrid drive mode and engine drive mode. The City Hybrid claims a maximum torque output of 253 Nm and class-leading fuel efficiency of 26.5 kmpl.

The Honda City Hybrid also comes kitted with Honda’s autonomous driving assistance package, which is named ‘Honda Sensing’. This package includes a collision mitigation braking system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist system, road departure mitigation system and automatic high beam. The car also gets a regenerative braking system, disc brakes on all four wheels, six airbags, emergency stop signal, multi-angle rear camera, lane watch camera, vehicle stability assist, agile handling assist and smartwatch connectivity with smart functions and alerts.

Once it launches here in India, the Honda City Hybrid will create a niche category of petrol-hybrid sedans at its price positioning.
