Mahindra announces 2022 Scorpio-N launch: Photos released

After being in the development for god knows how many years, the Indian auto giant Mahindra and Mahindra has finally taken the wraps off of the newest generation of its highly celebrated SUV Scorpio. The all-new SUV has been named the Scorpio-N – throughout its development, it was codenamed Z101.

The homegrown carmaker has also announced that the all-new Scorpio-N is slated to arrive on June 27, 2022. Mahindra also delivered the great news that the time-tested current-gen Scorpio will go on sale alongside the new SUV but with a new moniker of ‘Scorpio Classic’.

Mahindra along with this announcement also shared a ton of the pictures for the Scorpio-N and it looks exactly as we expected. The Scorpio-N continues to boast the big bulky body and stance that it has gained popularity for over the years. On the front end, the Scorpio-N gets a pair of rectangular headlamps with two sections that house the LED lights. It also gets a bigger front grille with chrome garnished fangs but this time around they are only six instead of the usual seven. With a wide air dam and squarish fog light clusters, the new front bumper takes on a more harmonious three-part design, with more elaborate details via LED DRLs.

Overall, the new Scorpio-N has definitely swelled in size but still manages to maintain its towering posture. From the looks of the side profile, a pronounced bend in the window line at the second row is new sight and apart from that the side profile appears to be more sculpted. The 2022 model also gets a new set of turbine styled machined alloy wheels. For some reason, the company has not released any pictures of the rear but it appears that it will retain those signature vertical taillamps but will be more modernized with LED lighting.

Mahindra also did not release any pictures of the interior but recently a spy video exposing almost every interior detail showed that it will come with an all-new dashboard layout. It will get the same multi-function unit that we have seen on the XUV700 but it does not get piano-black touches. Up-front it will get a wireless charger and two USB ports, manual parking brake, two cupholders, dual-zone climate control, drive modes, Hill Descent Control, Traction Control, idle engine start/stop system, push-button to start/stop engine, rear parking sensors, LED lights for the cabin, sunglass holder etc. The rear occupants will get rear AC vents, blower controls and a USB port.

As for the powertrain, the new Mahindra Scorpio-N is anticipated to have the same powertrains as the XUV700, albeit with a slightly lower level of tuning. A 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine will be available. Meanwhile, transmission duties could be performed by a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. It will also have the 4WD capability.
