Bigger than before

The all-new Mahindra Scorpio-N has become bigger in size compared to the current model. While Mahindra is yet to reveal the official dimensions of the SUV, it is visibly much bigger than the current-generation model of the car. The bigger dimensions will allow Mahindra to offer a spacious cabin.

Chassis

Mahindra will continue to use the body-on-frame platform for the all-new Scorpio N. While the XUV700 gets the monocoque chassis, the Scorpio-N gets will continue to offer the ladder-on-frame platform that is much more rugged. The ladder-frame chassis can also flex more than monocoque and is better suited for off-roading drives.

Engine options

Mahindra will continue to offer both petrol and diesel engine options with the all-new Scorpio-N. The petrol variants will get the 2.0-litre petrol engine that will generate a maximum power of 170 PS. The same engine produces a maximum power of 200 PS with the XUV700.

The diesel variants will get the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that will have two power outputs depending on the variants. The lower-powered variants will get 130 PS of maximum power while the higher-powered variants will get the 160 PS tune. Mahindra XUV700 gets 155 PS and 185 PS.

Automatic with both fuel types

Automatic transmissions have become very popular in India in recent times. The all-new Mahindra Scorpio-N will also offer automatic transmission options with both petrol and diesel engine options. Apart from the 6-speed manual transmission, we will get to see the 6-speed automatic transmission options with both the engine options.

4X4 options

While Mahindra had discontinued the 4X4 options with the Scorpio due to low sales numbers, the brand will bring it back with the new model. We will get to see a few top-end variants of the the new Mahindra Scorpio with 4X4 options. It is not clear if Mahindra will offer a full-fledged 4X4 system complete with low-ratio transfer case or will offer AWD system like the XUV700.

New seats

The all-new Scorpio N will come with new front seats. The leaked images show that the front seats will become much better than the current model and there is good amount of side bolsters that will keep the passengers in place.

Front-facing last row

Until now, all the generations of Mahindra Scorpio only offered side facing jump seats. However, with the new model, we will get the front-facing seats just like the Thar. The increase in space inside the all-new Scorpio definitely allows the last row seats to be aligned with the direction of the movement of the vehicle.

Design DNA intact

Mahindra will keep the design DNA of the Scorpio intact with the new-generation Scorpio-N. It means we will still get to see brake lamps on the D-Pillars of the car. Also, other highlights include a high bonnet position, a kink on the windowline that has been around on the older-generation Scorpio models as well.

No panoramic sunroof

The Scorpio N will miss out a lot of features compared to the XUV700. And rightly so. The Mahindra XUV700 is a technology-packed vehicle with features like ADAS, panoramic sunroof, dual-screens and more. The Scorpio-N will be much more affordable and get a lower price tag. Hence, only a regular sunroof instead of a panoramic sunroof. A regular instrument cluster instead of dual-screen set-up and the likes.

Launch date

Mahindra will announce the price of the all-new Scorpio-N next month. Mahindra will not discontinue the current-generation Scorpio, which means that the new Scorpio-N will be substantially more expensive than the standard current-generation Scorpio.

Pricing

Mahindra plans to keep selling the current Scorpio as the Scorpio Classic alongside the new Scorpio N. The Scorpio Classic is likely to see a price cut, while the Scorpio N is likely to be priced higher than the current Scorpio. Prices of the top end variants may overlap with some of the variants of the XUV700 even. But these are only guesses, and you will have to wait for the official announcement.
