Minimal jewellery, no visit to duty free: Air India’s new advisory to cabin crew

Wear minimum jewellery, no visit to duty-free, no drinking and eating before guest boarding — these are among the points laid out in the latest advisory issued by Air India to its cabin crew.

On Sunday, Air India issued a new advisory for its cabin crew to improve the airline’s on-time performance.

Some of the points discussed in the advisory are:

* The cabin crew must adhere to the uniform regulations with emphasis on minimum jewellery being worn in order to avoid any delays at customs and security checks.

* The cabin crew should not visit duty-free shops and proceed to the boarding gate soon after completing immigration and security checks.

* Cabin supervisor must ensure that all cabin crew are present in the cabin. Crew must not consume beverages/or eat food prior to/during guest boarding) and assist in swift boarding/seating of guests.

The latest guidelines come weeks after Air India’s cabin crew union objected to the company’s circular mandating body mass index (BMI) and weight checks for cabin crew prior to embarking on flights.

In a company-wide communique on January 20, Air India stated that each cabin crew member would now be subjected to BMI and weight checks on a quarterly basis.

“Cabin crew who are well-dressed and well-groomed according to uniform standards and regulations, present a positive and professional image of the airline,” the circular noted.

Air India is undergoing a makeover after it was handed over to the Tata group on January 27.
