The new vehicle will be based on Toyota’s low-cost Daihatsu New Generation Architecture (DNGA). It is derived from Toyota’s TNGA, which underpins cars like Camry in India. Think of DNGA as the low-cost version of the TNGA. Same as the VW Group’s MQB A0-IN is derived from the expensive MQB A0.

Coming to the engines, there is no confirmation on the same. However, the vehicles are likely to get a strong hybrid system developed by Toyota, The power unit will be a 1.5-litre petrol engine from Maruti Suzuki. As always, Maruti Suzuki will aim for a high-fuel efficiency, which can sway a lot of buyers from cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and more because of the skyrocketing fuel prices.

The powertrain is expected to be the same as the Euro-spec Suzuki Vitara. The new Vitara gets powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine. There is a 140V lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor as well. There are additional lithium-ion batteries and lead-acid batteries to handle the electrical equipment in the car when the engine switches off.

The 1.5-litre motor produces a maximum power of 115 PS and peak torque of 138 Nm. While the electric motor adds another 33 PS and 60 Nm. We can expect both manual transmission and automatic options available with the new model.

Earlier spy pictures of the test mule suggest that the cabin will be quite modern and futuristic. We will get to see a large touchscreen infotainment system. The actual size remains unknown.
