Sunny Deol takes his Land Rover Defender for an off-road trip [Video]

Ever since its resurrection in an all-new avatar, the Land Rover Defender has become the hot favourite of all those SUV driving enthusiasts for its butch appeal and go-anywhere ability. In a short period, it caught the fancy of several businessmen, actors and even politicians. In May 2022, Bollywood actor and BJP MP Sunny Deol acquired a top-spec Defender 110, which he recently took to the hills up north, exploring the capabilities of the SUV in off-road terrains.

A video of Sunny Deol driving his Land Rover Defender himself is doing rounds on the internet, in which he can be seen driving the SUV through a water stream and a rocky uphill patch full of pebbles. This video is a treat to watch because most actors prefer their high-end luxury SUVs to drive or be driven by their chauffeurs on the tarmac, and not off the road. This video also proves that there do exist some pure SUV enthusiasts who do not fear driving their luxurious SUVs off the road.

Sunny Deol bought a Land Rover Defender 110 in its top-spec P525 HSE variant. This top-of-the-line variant of the Defender costs Rs 2.05 crore, making it the most expensive variant in the entire lineup of Defender in India. He has purchased this SUV in a rather subtle shade of Fuji White.

Powering this mammoth SUV is Land Rover’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine. This engine is the biggest and most powerful engine in Land Rover’s current lineup of SUVs and also powers other elusive SUVs from the brand like Range Rover Autobiography and Range Rover Sport. This engine produces 525 PS of maximum power and 625 Nm of maximum torque. Despite its humongous size and heavy kerb weight, this SUV can reach a top speed of 240 km/h and cover 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.

The Land Rover Defender is also available in a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged 300 PS petrol engine, a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged 400 PS petrol engine and a 3.0-litre six-cylinder 300 PS diesel engine. The Defender arrived in India in October 2020 in both 90 (three-door) and 110 (five-door) versions, and both these versions are offered with standard four-wheel-drive and all the engine options mentioned above. There are ten colour options on offer for the Defender, namely Gondwana Stone, Silicon Silver, Hakuba Silver, Yulong White, Fuji White, Tasman Blue, Carpathian Grey, Eiger Grey, Pangea Green and Santorini Black.

Over the years, Dharmendra and Deol’s family have gathered an enviable collection of cars in their garage. Apart from the first car – a Fiat 1100, Dharmendra owns a collection of high-end vehicles including several Land Rover Range Rover SUVs.

Dharmendra even owns classic models like the Mercedes-Benz SL500. While there are several luxury vehicles in the garage of the family including a modern-generation S-Class, Bobby Deol, the younger son is quite a petrolhead.

Bobby Deol owns a Mercedes-Benz S-Class S550, a Porsche 911, and a Porsche Cayenne among a few other cars. Bobby is even spotted every now and then with his high-performance cars roaming around in the city.

Sunny Deol, who is the oldest son of Dharmendra owns several Land Rover Range Rover SUVs and most use them to travel and commute. Dharmendra’s wife uses a Hyundai Santa Fe, Audi Q5 and a Mercedes-Benz ML-Class. The family’s youngest son Abhay Deol drives around in a good old Pajero SFX and also owns a BMW X6. While Esha Deol owns an Audi Q5 and a BMW X5.
