Till now, the engine idle start/stop system was only offered only on the 1.5-litre TSI engine. But now, you get the same feature on the 1.0-litre TSI engine also. Because of the idle start/stop system, the claimed fuel efficiency has gone up from 18.1 kmpl to 19.20 kmpl for the manual gearbox and from 16.44 kmpl to 17.23 kmpl for the automatic transmission.

The tyre pressure monitoring system was offered only with the Topline and Performance Trim. But now, you get it with the Comfortline and Highline also. The Performance Trim now gets cherry red-coloured dashboard inserts only with the Wild Cherry Red exterior colour. The rest of the paint schemes will come with glossy grey dashboard inserts. Volkswagen’s website also says that they have also improved the roof liner.

Engine and gearbox

The Taigun continues to come with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI petrol engine. The 1.0 TSI produces 115 PS of max power and 178 Nm of peak torque whereas the 1.5 TSI produces 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The 1.0 TSI gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission and the 1.5 TSI gets a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.

As we know, both the engines now get an idle engine start/stop system. The 1.5 TSI also comes with ACT or Active Cylinder Technology. What this does is shut down some of the cylinders of the engine while coasting or when there is less load. This also helps in saving fuel.

Variants

Volkswagen offers Taigun in two trims. There is a Dynamic Line and a Performance Line. The Dynamic Line consists of Comfortline, Highline and Topline. The Performance Line gets GT and GT Plus. The Comfortline and GT variants are not offered with an automatic gearbox. On the other hand, the GT Plus variant is only offered with an automatic gearbox.

Rivals

Volkswagen Taigun has to go against Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, MG Astor, Nissan Kicks and Skoda Kushaq. Because of the pricing, the Taigun also competes against the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Harrier.
