Next-gen KTM 390 Duke spied in India for the first time

– Sports updated design inspired by 1290 Super Duke R

– Gets revised frame and cast aluminium sub-frame

– Changes to the engine could also be on cards

After the next-generation 390 Duke was spied overseas a few months back, KTM was recently spotted testing the motorcycle in India for the first time. From what we can decipher through these spy shots, this isn’t a minor nip and tuck job but a major overhaul.

The most conspicuous change is in the bodywork as it boasts a more muscular and radical design which is clearly inspired by the new 1290 Super Duke R. Partially hiding under the new bodywork is a revised frame and a new cast aluminium sub-frame. There’s an updated asymmetrical swingarm too, which is accompanied by an off-set rear monoshock. We also see weight shedding in the offing as the alloy wheels it was riding on were lighter, five-spoke units, similar to the new RCs and 390 Adventure. Moreover, the disc brake has also been moved to the right side.

The spy video also gives a glimpse of the updated instrument cluster which was partially covered. The refreshed unit is expected to get a different design, new layout, and a turn-by-turn navigation system. Interestingly, the engine casing of the test mule also seems to be slightly different which could mean more tractability, refinement, or a bump in its power output. The existing iteration churns out 42.9bhp and 37Nm of peak torque.

The next-generation KTM 390 Duke will most probably launch in the international markets by the end of this year, followed by its India launch in early 2023. Till then, stay tuned to BikeWale as we’ll keep bringing you more details.
