Mahindra XUV700 has won the Indian Car of the Year award. XUV700 won against other contenders like MG Astor, Skoda Octavia, Force Gurkha, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Citroen C5 Aircross, Skoda Kushaq, Renault Kiger, Volkswagen Taigun and Tata Punch.

The XUV700 scored 101 points. The second place was awared to Volkswagen Taigun with 89 points. At the third place, is Tata Punch with 71 points. Each jury is given 25 points which they have to distribute among 5 vehicles.

XUV700 is a hit in Indian market

There was a lot of hype around the XUV700 before even it was launched. This was because the XUV500 was a big hit in the Indian market and people were expecting a lot from the XUV700. Fortunately, all that hype was able to translate to a good sales figure for Mahindra. The XUV700 was able to gather more than 1 lakh bookings in just 4 months. In fact, there is still a huge waiting period for the XUV700. The SUV comes loaded with features, with multiple engine and transmission options. However, most importantly it was the pricing that attracted so much attention.

The prices of the XUV700 starts at Rs. 12.95 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 23.79 lakhs ex-showroom. Mahindra offers the XUV700 in two trims. There is MX and AX. The MX variant is offered only as a 5-seater SUV whereas the AX trim is offered as a 5-seater or a 7-seater version. The AX Trim is further divided into four variants. There is AX3, AX5, AX7 and AX7L.

Engine and gearbox

Mahindra offers the XUV700 with two engine options. There is a 2.0-litre turbocharged mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Both the engiens are segment leading in terms of power output.

The petrol engine produces 200 PS of max power and 380 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The diesel engine is offered in two states of tune.

In the MX Trim, the engine produces 155 PS of max power and 360 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to only a 6-speed manual gearbox. Then there is the AX Trim in which the diesel engine produces 185 PS of max power. It also comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox in which it produces 420 Nm whereas if you get the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, the torque output is bumped up to 450 Nm.

Mahindra XUV700 competes against the Kia Carens, MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and Jeep Compass.
