Jamshedpur, March 3: Tatas want to develop Jamshedpur as a world class city that 2will set national benchmarks in sustainability, ease of living and digital technology,” said Tata Sons Chairman, N Chandrasekaran in his address to citizens at the Postal Park in Bistupur on Thursday, March 3 on the occasion of paying homage on the 183rd birth anniversary of industrialist and visionary Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the Founder.

The Tata Sons’ Chairman, N Chandrasekaran further observed, “We are optimistically hopeful that Jamshedpur sets national benchmarks in terms of sustainability, ease of living and all other facilities we can create and also usher in digital technologies. We can push the envelope to make Jamshedpur a world class city by working in coordination with the government and the people of the city.”

He was addressing the citizens of Jamshedpur at Bistupur Postal Park after paying homage to Founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on his 183nd Birth Anniversary.

 The Chairman said, “Founder’s Day is very special because it brings a lot of inspiration whenever I visit Jamshedpur to participate in the 3rd March celebrations.”

Discharged duties in national interest during pandemic

N Chandrasekaran, in his address to citizens, further stated, “The last couple of years have been extremely difficult for everyone but I must say that the manner in which the Tata Group has come through with the support of all of you has been extremely satisfying and Tata Steel, in particular, rose to the occasion for ensuring employees’ safety and citizens’ needs including the best supports during the COVID waves by arranging for vaccination, isolation wards and inclusive  hospital facilities,” and added, “I called up the Tata Steel management during the second COVID wave when there was huge crisis for medical oxygen and within a span of weeks, Tata Steel increased the capacity ten-fold. We also imported Cryogenic cylinders so that medical oxygen could be supplied all over the country.”

 In the course of his talks, the Chairman while lauding the citizens of Jamshedpur stated, “People of the city have always been supportive to Tata Steel and Tata Group and the way we all worked together during the pandemic is testimony to the value system that has been instilled in the group by our founder for a very long time. I am grateful to all present here and the city of Jamshedpur and Tata Steel employees and their families.”

Best of Tata Steel yet to come

“Despite trying times Tata Steel has had the best ever performance in its history. In terms of output and financial performance, it has been historic. I state in all humility, that these activities and achievements are only a beginning and the best of Tata Steel is yet to come.  All of this would not have been possible without everyone joining shoulders,” he observed.

Speaking about the Company’s team, Tata Sons’ Chairman, N Chandrasekaran averred, “Tata Steel has a very energetic, vibrant and well-meaning support force that blends in the growth of a strong financial performance and aspiration but more importantly builds the purpose and puts its hand up every time something needs to be done for the society towards which Tata Group is committed.”

Tata Steel’s production to be doubled

While signing off, N Chandrasekaran projected the immediate targets of the Company by stating, “Tata Steel India will double its production capacity from 20 million tonne to 40 million tonne through this decade.  We have been making investments in downstream businesses and it is my desire that every Tata Group company has a home in Jamshedpur.  We have Tanishq, Big Basket, Tata 1MG and there are many other companies. Tata Power is very active here to bring solar power to Jamshedpur.”
