Renault is developing multiple new SUVs for the global markets. The company is working on the third generation Duster SUV and a 7-seater SUV based on the Bigster concept. Both these models will be based on Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B platform that underpins the new Sandero and other Renault cars in global markets.
Renault has recently discontinued the Duster nameplate from the Indian market. Previous reports suggest that the third generation Renault Duster will be launched in the country; however, the launch timeline is yet to be finalised. It is expected to be introduced by 2023-24.
The third-gen Duster is reportedly to offer a very good price-to-feature ratio, and will address customers looking for a simple car which can go off-road. It is likely to be offered with plug-in hybrid powertrain. An all-electric version of the SUV is also expected to be introduced in select markets. The India-spec model is likely to be offered with a turbocharged petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. A plug-in hybrid model could also be launched in our market.
Renault’s low-cost brand, Dacia is working on the new Bigster concept based SUV for the select international markets. Renault will also use this SUV for other markets where Dacia is not present. The new Dacia Bigster concept based SUV is planned to be launched by 2023-24, with production model to be unveiled in 2022-23.
To be positioned above the regular Duster SUV, the new Bigster SUV will measure around 4.60 meters in length. The 7-seater SUV could be called the Grand Duster. The SUV will get hybrid engines for the European markets. It is likely to feature a conventional hybrid system & a plug-in hybrid (with all-wheel drive system).
