Hybrid mid-size SUV to take on Creta
[ad_1]
Toyota India has officially unveiled the much-awaited mid-size SUV – the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The all-new SUV will be Toyota’s most affordable SUV in the Indian market but the price announcement will happen at a later date. The all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will take on the mid-size SUV segment including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and the newly-introduced Mahindra Scorpio-N.
The all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder looks like an all-new design approach from the Japanese brand. The SUV will come with an aggressive-looking face with split headlamps. The new Urban Cruiser Hyryder’s front-end gets a new crystal acrylic pattern that extends to become the twin-DRLs. The main cluster lamp is located down below in the bumper. Even the rear gets sleek LED tail lamps that look very similar to the twin DRLs.
The Urban Cruiser Hyryder will offer dual-tone alloy wheels. However, Toyota is yet to reveal its size. Toyota has not talked about the dimensions of the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder as well.

The cabin of the new mid-size SUV gets a dual-tone cabin with soft-touch material on the dashboard. The Urban Cruiser also offers a panoramic sunroof, a freestanding infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting and more. Toyota also offers connected technology that allows the owners to control various features of the car through a smartphone.
The Urban Cruiser Hyryder offers an all-digital instrument cluster and also offers multiple airbags.
Hybrid power
The new Toyota Urban Cruiser offers an all-hybrid terrain. It draws power from a 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine. Toyota also offers an EV mode that allows the car to run only on electric power. Toyota also has an AWD system with the Urban Cruiser Hyryder which is a segment-first feature. There are various drive modes available with the all-new Hyryder.
Toyota is yet to reveal details on the transmission of the new car. Toyota has also not shared details on the launch of the vehicle or bookings. The brand is likely to do a price announcement by the festive season.
The all-new SUV will become the first strong hybrid SUV in the segment. With the rising fuel prices, Toyota is betting on the strong hybrids instead of the fully-electric vehicles. Just like Toyota, Maruti Suzuki will bring a similar D-segment vehicle to the market later this year. However, the Maruti Suzuki will not offer a strong hybrid system like the Toyota. Instead, it will come with a mild-hybrid system as we have seen in other Maruti Suzuki models.
