Mahindra has revealed the exterior of the new Scorpio N. It is supposed to launch on June 27th, marking the 20th anniversary of the SUV. Till now we knew that the homegrown manufacturer will offer the Scorpio N with both petrol and diesel engines.  However, the power outputs were not known. Now, the power output of the Scorpio N’s engine has been revealed.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the 2.2-litre diesel engine are taken from the Thar and the XUV700. The petrol engine will produce 170 Ps of max power whereas the XUV700 produces 200 PS and Thar produces 150 Ps.

The diesel engine will be offered in two states of tune. The lower variants will get the same tune as the Thar. So, they will produce 130 PS whereas the higher variants will produce 160 PS. For reference, the XUV700’s diesel engine produces 155 PS in the lower variant and 185 Ps on the AX trim.

It might happen that the lower state of the diesel engine is offered only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The higher state of diesel engine and the turbo petrol engine will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Mahindra follows the same technique for the current Scorpio too. The lower variants produce 120 PS and 280 Nm. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox whereas the higher variants produce 140 PS and 319 Nm. It is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Once the Scorpio N launches, the current Scorpio will not be discontinued. It will continue to be on sale and will be called Scorpio Classic.

Mahindra will offer a 4×4 powertrain with both engines. Moreover, there will also be a low-range gearbox on offer. Moreover, we are expecting that there would be drive modes and terrain modes on offer too. They will be able to adjust the amount of torque that is being sent to a particular wheel.

The design of the Scorpio N is an evolution of the current Scorpio which is a good thing. It means that the Scorpio N looks butch, SUV-ish and has a lot of road presence. The entire exterior has been redesigned but you can still see some of the elements of the Scorpio.

The interior is also heavily redesigned. It will now be finished in an all-brown theme which does give an up-market look. It gets the instrument cluster from the MX variant of the XUV700. There is dual-zone climate control, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, all LED lighting, electric sunroof, keyless entry, push-button to start/stop the engine and much more. Moreover, this time the Scorpio N will offer front-facing third-row seats. The current Scorpio comes with side-facing jump seats for the third row. The front-facing seats are simply safer. Because of this reason, Mahindra discontinued Thar’s lower variants that came with side-facing rear seats.
