Volkswagen has announced that they will be launching the Virtus on 9th June. The unveiling of the Virtus was already done on March 8th. The Virtus is the last product under Skoda-VW’s INDIA 2.0 Strategy. We also have a walkaround video of the Virtus available, you can watch it by clicking here. Once launched, the Volkswagen Virtus will go against Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Skoda Slavia and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Volkswagen has already started accepting pre-bookings of the Virtus.
Engine and gearbox
The Virtus will be offered with two petrol engine options. They fall under the TSI family of Volkswagen engines. There will be a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine. The 1.0 TSI produces 115 PS of max power and 178 Nm of peak torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Most people will be preferring this engine because it has an ample amount of power available on tap and is also more efficient.

Then there is the highlight of the Virtus, it is a 1.5-litre TSI engine that puts out 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. According to the rumours, this engine will only come mated to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission which is a bit disappointing because a 6-speed manual gearbox would have made it a perfect driver’s car. Skoda is offering a manual gearbox with the 1.5 TSI on their Slavia. This engine makes the Slavia and the Virtus, the most powerful mid-size sedan in the segment. People who consider themselves enthusiasts will be opting for the 1.5-litre TSI engine. Moreover, this engine also comes with ACT or active cylinder technology which can basically shut some of its cylinders under certain conditions which means that it would be able to save some fuel.
Variants
Volkswagen will be offering the Virtus in two trims. There would be a Dynamic Line and Performance Line. The Dynamic Line is expected to offer three variants under it. There will be Comfortline, Highline and Topline. It will be offered only with the 1.0 TSI. Moreover, we are expecting that the automatic transmission would be offered on Highline and Topline variants.
Then there is the Performance Line which will have the GT variant under it. It will be offered only with the 1.5 TSI. The Performance Line will also get some cosmetic changes. For instance, a blacked-out roof, alloy wheels and outside rearview mirrors, a roof-lid spoiler and red brake calipers. The interior will also have a blacked-out theme with red inserts on the dashboard. Moreover, there would also be red stitching on the seats, steering wheel and gear lever, you would also get aluminium pedals. All these changes would give a more sporty theme to the sedan.
Features
Volkswagen Virtus will come with an electric sunroof, multi-function steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, LED projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, a wireless charger and a cooled glovebox. You also get ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold Control, up to 6 airbags, automatic headlamps, a new touchscreen infotainment system and much more.
