Volkswagen is all set to introduce its new mid-size sedan ‘Volkswagen Virtus’ in India. Prior to the launch of Volkswagen Virtus on June 9, the sedan has started arriving at dealerships across the country. The preview of the Volkswagen Virtus has started across India in 152 authorised dealerships from today (May 14) until June 8.

The new Volkswagen sedan is based on the MQB AO-IN platform which is the same as that of the Skoda Slavia. In terms of dimensions, the VW Virtus measures 4561mm in length, 1752mm in width and 1507mm in height. The wheelbase of the sedan is 2651mm while the boot space is 521 litres.

The new Volkswagen Virtus sedan is powered by a powerful 1.0-litre (999cc) TSI engine in 6-speed manual transmission or automatic transmission options. The engine offers 85 kW power @ 5000-5500. The torque that is offered on the car is 178 NM @ 1750-4500. Buyers also get a 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine which is the sporty GT badged performance line. The engine generates a peak power of 110kW @ 5000-6000 while the maximum power is 250 Nm @ 1600-3500. The 1.5-litre engine gets a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

In terms of exterior, the Volkswagen sedan is quite similar to that of the Skoda Slavia (due to the same platform). The Virtus gets a two-slat grille, auto LED headlamps, wraparound bumper and a neat design of the bumper.

The sedan is loaded with more than 40 safety features in order to meet the requirements of the users. The safety features include 6 Airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Multi-Collision Brakes, LED headlamps with LED DRL, Split LED tail lamps, 3 headrests at rear, reversing camera etc. The convenience features include keyless entry, auto ac, cruise control, front ventilated leather seats, spacious interiors, large boot space, multi-function steering wheel etc. Connectivity features on the Virtus sedan include Android Auto and Apple Carplay, large touchscreen infotainment (25.65 cm), wireless mobile charging, Volkswagen Connectivity 2.0 etc.

The Volkswagen Virtus will be available in six colour options which include Wild Cherry Red, Volkswagen Virtus, Reflex Silver, Curcuma Yellow, Carbon Steel Grey and Candy White.

We expect that the new Volkswagen Virtus will cost around Rs 9 lakh to Rs 15 lakh as it launches in the Indian market. Interested buyers can book the sedan fat Skoda dealerships or on the Volkswagen India website.

After its launch the Volkswagen Virtus will compete with the likes of other mid-size sedans available in India. The Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz are expected to compete with the likes of Volkswagen Virtus.
