TVS Motors will launch the Ronin small capacity roadster-styled motorcycle on the 6th of July, 2022. Days ahead of the official launch, images of the Ronin have leaked onto the internet. The person who’s posted these images on Instagram hints that the motorcycle will share its 125cc, four stroke air cooled engine with the TVS Radeon. He goes on to state that peak power could be about 8 Bhp. Both figures seem unlikely. Here’s why.

From the looks of it, the TVS Ronin roadster could displace anywhere between 200-225cc. The motor on the bike seems much larger than the 125cc motor that powers the Radeon. Also, the presence of upside down front forks on the upcoming motorcycle hints at premium positioning. A motorcycle positioned thus will generally have a bigger motor, especially if it’s air cooled.

Moreover, the monoshock rear suspension and the headlamp with daytime running LED add to the theory that the Ronin will be a premium motorcycle, priced between Rs. 1.5-2 lakh. Alloy wheels and disc brakes on both wheels are on offer. Dual channel ABS could be standard. All said, we won’t have to wait for the specifications for too long as the launch is just around the corner.

Notably, the Ronin is quite distinct from the Zeppelin power cruiser motorcycle concept that TVS Motors showcased at the Auto Expo a few years ago.The Ronin has an upright seating position with a large, wide seat and the pegs positioned quite comfortably, just as they would on a scrambler or roadster. The design of the TVS Ronin seems to have derived inspiration from the Triumph Trident, and the motorcycle looks quite compact. We’ll have to wait for exact dimensions to be sure though.

The retro-modern motorcycle segment in India is witnessing some steady action. More and more buyers – especially the younger ones – are opting for motorcycles that are designed not just for commuting but also for leisure riding. The recent success of the Honda CB 350 and CB 350 RS seems to have prompted many motorcycle makers to go this route.

In fact, Royal Enfield is readying up the Hunter 350, a scrambler styled motorcycle is widely anticipated to be the most affordable bike in the Royal Enfield line-up. Yezdi launched the Scrambler last year, and Honda is said to be working on a Scrambler-styled bike based on the CB 350 platform. Husqvarna has already launched two retro-modern 250cc motorcycles – the Vitpilen and Svartpilen.

Clearly, this space is heating up and TVS Motors will want some part of the pie. The Ronin seems to be a step in that direction. Currently, TVS Motors’ flagship motorcycle is the Apache 310 RR, developed in collaboration with German  bikemaker BMW Motorrad. The Ronin is likely to sit in between the Apache 200 4V and the Apache 310 RR.
