Toyota Fortuner GR Sport launched; Most expensive variant

After a year of the arrival of the new Fortuner and the cosmetically different Fortuner Legender, it looks like Toyota is expanding the lineup of Fortuner with yet another variant. Recently, a few spy pictures show a slightly different looking Toyota Fortuner with GR Sport badging in dealer stockyards. Toyota has now announced the price of the car. The new Toyota Fortuner GR-S is available in a single variant with a sticker price of Rs 48.3 lakh, ex-showroom.

The new Fortuner GR Sport is based on the Legender variant of the Fortuner. It gets a tweaked front grille and front and rear bumpers and new fog lamp housings.

This sportier version of the Fortuner also gets GR badges on the front grille, front fenders and rear profile. In addition, the Fortuner GR Sport also gets black-coloured alloy wheels, unlike the machined and grey alloy wheels in other current variants of the Fortuner.

While the layout of the cabin is the same as the currently available versions of the Fortuner, the cabin here is finished in an all-black theme with contrast red stitching. In addition, there are GR badges present on the steering wheel, seat headrests, MID in the instrument console and push start-stop button.

The other features available with the new variant include aluminium pedals, a powered tailgate, a JBL sound system, a wireless charger and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Toyota Fortuner GR Sport engine options

The Toyota Fortuner GR Sport will retain the 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine from the regular versions of the Toyota Fortuner. Combined with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel-drive system, this engine will make 204 bhp of maximum power and 500 Nm of peak torque output. The petrol engine option is not available with the new Fortuner GR-S.

The new Toyota Fortuner GR Sport is likely to be positioned above the Legender variant, which is already priced on an expensive end. Apart from the cosmetic changes in and out, there are no new feature additions or tweaks to its performance and riding dynamics. It is not the first time that the Fortuner is getting a sporty visual treatment, as Toyota had made a TRD Sportivo variant available in the previous generation of the Fortuner in India.
