Toyota Fortuner GR-S now costs more than Rs. 61 lakh in Bangalore

Toyota’s most recent launch in the Indian market is the new GR-S variant of the Fortuner. It is the new top-end variant and is priced at Rs. 48.43 lakhs ex-showroom. The on-road price of the Fortuner GR-S now crosses Rs. 60 lakh mark in Bangalore. To be precise, it costs Rs. 61.05 lakhs on-road.
We can see from the screenshot that the two major factors that increase the price of the SUV significantly are registration and insurance. The registration cost is Rs. 9.93 lakhs which is a lot. You can buy another small car for this amount. Then there is the insurance which is Rs. 2.18 lakhs. Other factors are tax collected at source at Rs. 48,430, hypothecation charges of Rs. 1,500 and FasTag of Rs. 500. There is also a road safety tax of Rs. 1,000.

Toyota made some cosmetic changes to make the GR-S variant. Toyota offers the GR-S variant in black and white colour only. On the exterior, there is a different bumper which is specific to GR-S. The radiator grille is now finished in bi-tone finish and the faux skid plate is black in colour. The outside rearview mirror and alloy wheels are now finished in black. If you get the Pearl White colour then the side moulding is also finished in Pearl White.
The brake calipers are now red in colour so they add a hint of sportiness. At the rear, there is a spoiler and a faux skid plate that has a diffuser type skid plate. Moreover, you get GR Sport badging on the front as well as at the rear.
There are some changes to the interior also. It now comes with a slightly different steering wheel with GR badging and it is leather-wrapped also. The seats are also GR-specific as they have GR embroidered on headrests. The surround around the gear lever is now finished in a carbon fibre finish. There are aluminium pedals for a more sporty look.
Toyota has equipped the Fortuner GR-S with 11 speakers from JBL, dual-zone climate control, LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, heat rejection glass, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, multi-information display with GR graphics, connected car technology, powered tailgate, keyless entry and push button to start/stop the engine.
Mechanically, the Fortuner GR-S stays the same as the regular Fortuner. So, it gets a 2.8-litre unit that produces 204 Ps of max power and 500 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. On the GR-S variant, it drives all four wheels using a 4×4 system.
The lower variants are also offered with a 2.7-litre petrol engine on offer which produces 166 Ps of max power and 245 Nm of peak torque. It is also offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. However, it is offered in a rear-wheel drive configuration. Moreover, the lower variants of the diesel engine are also offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
