Ola’s electric bikes were supposed to bring a green ‘revolution’ to India. They started a customer nightmare instead.
Ola Electric has recalled 1,441 units of its electric two-wheelers following the recent incidents of e-bikes catching fire.
Cab-hailing service Ola launched Ola Electric Scooters in September 2021. They have priced between Rs 85,000 and Rs 1.6 lakh. It was branded as bringing the ‘e-revolution’ to India.
The ‘revolution’ that followed included no test drives, long delays between order and delivery and sometimes, even safety issues.
On 25th April 2022, Ola Electric recalled 1,441 units of its electric two-wheelers in the wake of incidents of e-bikes catching fire. These scooters will be inspected by engineers and will go through diagnostics across all systems.
Ola said it supported an EV safety policy, and a preliminary assessment of one of its vehicles catching fire revealed the incident was an isolated one, adding that the recalls were a “pre-emptive measure.”
