Maruti Suzuki has planned several new models for India especially in the SUV segment. Besides this, the company will setup a new manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda, Sonipat, Haryana that will reach to its peak production capacity of 10 lakh units in the next 8 years. The automaker will require a total investment of Rs 18,000 crore for this project. The facility will start from 2025 in its first phase and the second phase will begin in late 2026. Maruti Suzuki clarifies that its new Kharkhoda plant won’t be used for EV (electric vehicle) production at the moment. It will serve purpose to meet the demand in the domestic and exports market.
The Indo-Japanese automaker aims to expand its CNG model range in coming months. Reports suggest that the company will soon introduce the CNG version of the Vitara Brezza and Baleno hatchback. The former is ready to enter into its second generation next month (June 2022). Maruti Suzuki has already confirmed that it’s working on strong hybrids for India. The new-generation Maruti Brezza or its upcoming mid-size SUV could be the brand’s first model to come with strong hybrid tech. One must note that there is no official word on the same.
Talking about the new Brezza, the subcompact SUV will come with the updated 1.5L K15C naturally aspirated petrol engine. The old 4-speed automatic gearbox will be replaced with a new 6-speed torque convertor automatic unit. A 5-speed manual gearbox, however, will be carried forward from the current generation. The 2022 Maruti Brezza will have more features on-board including a 360 degree camera, connected car tech, Head-Up Display, wireless smartphone connectivity and wireless charging.
The new Maruti mid-size SUV, which will be co-developed with Toyota, is likely to launch during 2022 Diwali season. The model will be designed on Toyota’s TNGA-B platform. Rumour has it that Maruti’s Creta rival will be offered with two petrol engines – one with mild hybrid and one with strong hybrid system.
