Mahindra XUV700 to lose some features temporarily: Here’s why

Mahindra has sent a notification to its customers and dealerships who are waiting for the delivery that a couple of features will not be when the XUV700 will be delivered. Upon delivery, there will be no sequential turn indicators in the rear tail lamps and the second key will also not be available.

It is important to note that both of these features are not removed, they will simply be added to the SUV at a later stage. The sequential turn indicators on the rear tail lamps are offered on AX5, AX7 and AX7L variants.

Mahindra says that the sequential turn indicators will be added by the dealership when they are available. They have also said that the second smart key would be given to the customers within the next four to six months. The owners of Mahindra XUV700 would have to sign an acknowledgement for this same.

Reason behind this

Mahindra had to do this because of the shortage of semiconductors that the world is currently facing. It seems like the sequential turn indicators need another chip to function. So, Mahindra has decided to fit it later on so that they can at least deliver the vehicle right now. Mahindra is not the only one doing this, many manufacturers have revamped their variant line-up because of the chip shortage and the waiting period has also increased significantly because of the same.

Not the first time

This is not the first time that Mahindra had to do something like this. In November last year, they removed wireless charger functionality from XUV700 because of the semiconductor shortage. They also had to dispatch Thar without its infotainment system. So, the customers had to wait for the dealerships to install the infotainment system at the time of the deliveries.

The top-end variants of the XUV700 use more chips because they come with more features. So, as you climb up the variant line-up, the waiting period also increases. It is reported that the top-end variants of the XUV700 use 170 chips because of the Advanced Driver Aids System.

Back then, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director (Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors), M&M, said, “There are specific shortages of semiconductors that go into high-end products. We may adapt some of our variant offerings in XUV700 to give customers the option of giving up some features on a lower-price setoff, depending on the kind of shortages. We are not forcing the customer to buy the new variant. It is completely up to them to choose.”

Upcoming 6-seater version

If you open the AdrenoX application, you would be able to see a 6-seater version of the XUV700. This leads us to believe that Mahindra will launch an XUV700 with 6 seats. It would come with captain seats for the middle row instead of a bench seat.

The captain seats could be offered only with the top-end variant. It would be priced more than the 7-seater version. As of now, the AX7 variant starts from Rs. 18.63 lakhs ex-showroom and the AX7L variant starts from Rs. 21 lakhs ex-showroom.
