The manufacturer will be launching the Scorpio N on 27th June and the current Scorpio will then be renamed “Scorpio Classic”. Mahindra is currently testing Scorpio Classic, it is expected to come with some minor updates which are not yet clear because the test mules were camouflaged. The design of the Scorpio N looks properly butch. It has a lot of road presence and a boxy design. There are new LED projector headlamps and Mahindra’s 6 vertical slat grille. Moreover, there is also the new Mahindra’s twins-peak logo that debuted on the XUV700.
From the side profile, the SUV looks strong and has a kink in the chrome beltline and it does have a SUV stance because of the plastic cladding, huge wheel arches, roof rails and ground clearance. The rear of the Scorpio N will remind you of the current Scorpio with the side-hinged tailgate that is still opened with a door handle. The rear LED tail lamps are new and they do look Volvo inspired.
Engine and gearbox
The power outputs of the Scorpio N have already been leaked online. It will be offered with 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. The engines are the same ones that are doing duty on the Thar and the XUV700.
The mStallion petrol engine will produce 170 Ps of max power. When compared, the Thar produces 150 PS and XUV700 produces a massive 200 PS. The torque output is still not known but it is expected to be around 350 Nm.
The mHawk diesel engine will be offered in two states of tune. The lower variants will produce 130 Ps which is the same tune as the Thar. So, the torque output could be around 300 Nm. The higher variants will produce 160 PS which is more than the Thar but less than the XUV700. In Thar, the same engine produces 130 Ps. In the XUV700, the engine comes in two states of tune. In the MX variant, the engine produces 155 PS and in the AX variant, it produces 185 PS.
The gearbox options for both engines will be a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Having said that the, lower state of tune of the diesel engine could be offered only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Mahindra will also offer a 4×4 drivetrain on both the engines but it will be reserved for the higher variants only. There would be a proper low-range gearbox and terrain modes on offer.
