In a rather bizarre accident, a Mahindra Thar met with an accident on a busy road in Katargam, one of the most populous suburbs of Surat in Gujarat. All-new Mahindra Thar flips
The entire accident got recorded in a CCTV camera positioned alongside the road, just above the place where the Thar collided. In the CCTV video, we can see that a red-coloured Mahindra Thar is taking a turn on a round-about.

However, soon after the Thar made the turn on the circle, it glided over the divider of the road and entered the opposite lane. Thankfully, at that time, no other vehicle came in its way. After gliding over the divider, the Thar then collided with the shops on the other side of the lane. After the collision, the Thar turned over towards the left side.
In the video, we can see that the Mahindra Thar hasn’t suffered from major sheet metal damages. It is also believed that no casualties were reported in this accident, and the occupants in the Thar suffered only minor injuries. It is not clear what was the speed of the Thar at the time of the accident.
In the video, we can see that the Thar didn’t stop and mowed over the divider at a constant speed. It indicates two possibilities. In the first possibility, the person driving the Thar was a newbie and might have confused between the accelerator and clutch pedal in a panicky situation like this. There is another possibility that the person driving the Thar might have been under the influence of alcohol and must have lost his conscience and control over the steering wheel.
Reports also suggest that the driver of the car was new and did not know how the vehicle. There is no official statement from the police or the owner of the vehicle.
Mahindra Thar gets a four-star safety rating
In this second-generation avatar, the Mahindra Thar is a vastly improvised product over its predecessor by having massive enhancements in all parameters. The new second-generation Thar is a much safer vehicle than the first-generation model and has secured a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests. In the Global NCAP crash tests, the Mahindra Thar scored 12.52 points out of 17 in the adult occupant protection and 41.11 points out of 49 in the child occupant protection.
