KSEB adds 60 Tata Tigor EV and 5 Nexon EVs to their fleet

Kerela State Electricity Board or KSEB had recently placed an order with Tata Motors for 65 electric vehicles. The State Electricity Board recently celebrated its 65th Anniversary and the electric vehicles were handed over to the Electricity Department in an official ceremony. Here we have a video that shows glimpses of the official ceremony in which the electric cars were handed over. The Electricity Department has acquired 60 Tigor EV sedans and 5 Nexon EV SUVs to the fleet.

The video has been uploaded by KASA VLOGS on their YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger is seen attending the official ceremony. Tata Tigor EV and Nexon EVs were lined up and were decorated with ribbons and balloons for the ceremony. All the cars gets a graphic sticker on the side profile with the toll free number for KSEB mentioned on it. Other that, no other changes are visible on the car. Tata Nexon EV also has similar graphics but, they get beacon lights on the roof.

The ceremony was done in the presence of K Krishnankutty, Minister for Electricity and Antony Raju, Minister for Road Transport of Kerala. After the function was finished, the 65 vehicles rolled out as a rally inside the city. Water Salute was given to the newly acquired electric vehicle by Fire and Rescue department. The ceremony was conducted a day before International Women’s day so 8 electric vehicles out of the 65 were driven by lady drivers.

Tata Motors had bagged the contract for 65 vehicles from KSEB as part of a competitive pan-India tender floated by KSEB. The electric cars have been added to the department as part of the state’s vision to become carbon neutral by 2030. This is no the first time, a government department has acquired electric vehicles into their fleet. In 2020, Kerala Motor Vehicle Department had added 65 Nexon EVs into their fleet. 45 Nexon EVs were delivered to the department initially.

Tata Motors launched the Tigor EV powered by Ziptron in the market last year. In terms of design, Tigor EV is the same as the petrol version. The differentiating factor is the Electric Blue highlights at places and the Signature Aqua Teal paint job.  The Tigor Xpress T which is a low powered version is being used in the commercial fleet. The Tigor EV uses a 26 kWh High energy density Lithium-ion battery pack. The battery pack is water and dust proof. The electric motor on the Tigor EV generates 75 Ps and 170 Nm of peak torque. Tigor EV has an ARAI certified driving range of 306 km.

The Nexon EV on the other hand is powered by a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery and the electric motor generates 129 Ps and 245 Nm of peak torque. The Nexon EV has an ARAI cetified driving range of 312 kms. Both Nexon EV and the Tigor EV support AC and DC fast charging. Price for Nexon EV starts at Rs 14.29 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 16.70 lakh, ex-showroom. A Black Edition is also available with the the Nexon EV. Price for Tigor EV starts at Rs 11.99 lakh, ex-showroom and go up to Rs 13.14 lakh, ex-showroom.
