Honda has finally confirmed to launch the City Hybrid in India on April 14, 2022. The deliveries could start from May 2022. The Honda City Hybrid made its global debut back in November 2020. The fifth-gen City Hybrid is set to become India’s most affordable self charging strong hybrid offering.

Earlier, the new Honda City Hybrid was expected to be launched by February this year, however, it was delayed due to the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Honda City Hybrid 2022 Engine

The Honda City Hybrid will feature the company’s i-MMD (Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive) eHEV hybrid powertrain, which uses twin electric motors along with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. The naturally aspirated Atkinson cycle petrol motor churns out 98 bhp and 127 Nm of peak torque. The independent electric motor get power from a lithium-ion battery that will self charge through regenerative braking or engine power. This motor kicks out 109 bhp and 253 Nm of peak torque. An e-CVT (electronic CVT) gearbox will power the front wheels.

Honda City Hybrid 2022 Features

The car will be available in three drive modes: Pure EV, hybrid, and pure petrol. The car runs on EV mode when the petrol engine will have low fuel efficiency. Once the car reaches highways or starts gaining speed, the system automatically starts using the hybrid or pure petrol mode.

The company has not declared the fuel efficiency of the car yet, but if we look at the Thai-spec City Hybrid which offers a claimed economy of up to 28kmpl. This is nearly 10kmpl more than the petrol-powered City. Then we can expect it to have higher fuel efficiency than the current model.

The City Hybrid could sport a similar style that of the Thai-spec’s RS version that has sportier bumpers, a honeycomb grille, and a boot lid spoiler. It could also gain ADAS (advanced driver assistance technology) with features such as automatic emergency braking, electronic parking brake, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and automatic high beam adjustment.

The new car is also likely feature an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa remote control, ambient lighting and connected car technology.

Honda City Hybrid is said to be heavier by 110 kilos than the standard petrol counterpart.

The Honda City hybrid could have a price around Rs 2.5 lakh for a single fully loaded variant. The price of the current City’s petrol variants range from Rs 11.23 lakh to RS 14.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
