The sedan segment is slowly dying because of SUVs. But there are still some people who prefer sedans over SUVs. This is because sedans still are considered premium over other body shapes in some cities. Right now, the newest sedan to launch in India is Volkswagen Virtus. The biggest rival to Virtus right now is Honda City and Honda has found ways to lure potential customers of Virtus.

Honda is comparing the 4th gen City and the 5th gen City to the Virtus. Honda first lists down the must-have features at effective pricing that the 4th gen City gets and Virtus lacks. Honda is comparing the V variant of the City 4th gen to Virtus.

Honda says that the City comes with diamond-cut alloy wheels, cruise control, a rear parking camera with multiple views, front fog lamps and rear AC vents. The City 4th Gen is priced at Rs. 9.99 lakhs ex-showroom whereas the Volkswagen Virtus starts at Rs. 11.22 lakhs ex-showroom. That is a difference of Rs. 1.35 lakhs and Honda is offering offers of up to Rs. 12,000 with the City.

Then the Japanese manufacturer compares 5th Gen City to the Virtus. The City comes with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine whereas the Virtus gets a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine. So, that means the City gets an extra cylinder and a 500 cc larger engine. Moreover, it is also more powerful as it produces 121 PS as compared to 115 PS of Virtus. What Honda does not says is that the City produces 145 Nm of peak torque whereas the Virtus produces 178 Nm.

Honda offers the City 5th gen with a diesel engine also. It is a 1.5-litre unit that we have seen on other Honda vehicles also. It produces 100 Ps of max power and 200 Nm of peak torque. It has a claimed fuel efficiency of 24.1 kmpl. On the other hand, Volkswagen has announced that they will not offer a diesel engine in India. So, Virtus is not offered with a diesel engine.

Honda also compares the dashboard of both the vehicles. The City’s dashboard is based on “SO-KAI” cockpit design which gives a sense of luxury and openness. The quality materials of high quality and Honda has used soft-touch materials along with a wooden insert. Skoda is using mostly hard scratchy plastics that are budget grade as per Honda.

The manufacturer also talks of the practicality of both sedans. The A-pillar of the Virtus is quite thick which can hamper the visibility which is not the case in the City. In Honda, the cup holders are placed in front of the gear lever which is more practical than Virtus’s cup holders that are placed on the side of the manual parking brake.

Then there are some features that are missing on the Virtus. For instance, the City gets Alexa and Google Voice Assistant, Smartwatch compatibility, a Lane Watch camera and a multi-angle rearview camera.

There are also offers up to Rs. 30,000 on the City. Moreover, Honda is also offering 10 year Anytime Warranty whereas Skoda only offers an extended warranty up to only 1.5 lakh kilometres.
