Ford’s global EV portfolio includes three models – Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning pickup truck and the E-Transit van.

Ford is evaluating the possibility of manufacturing electric vehicles in India.

Kapil Sharma, Director, Communications, Ford India, has stated that the company is looking into restarting its India operations under the PLI scheme and has submitted a proposal to the Government of India.

If the plan goes through, India could become an export base for EV manufacturing in the subcontinent. The carmaker hasn’t revealed which of the two plants it intends to retain to build EVs.

Under the government’s PLI scheme, a company is allowed to manufacture products even if they are not sold locally. However, the company has to meet prescribed localisation, annual growth and other targets.

At present, Ford’s global EV portfolio includes three models – Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning pickup truck and the E-Transit van.
