Ather starts working on long-range version of 450x

Ather’s electric scooters are one of the most sorted and well-rounded products when it comes to electric two-wheelers. The only thing that it is currently lacking is riding range. The 450X has a riding range of 85 km on a single charge which is less than what the competitors offer. Now, a leaked documents suggests that Ather will be launching two new variants of the scooter.

The battery capacity will now be 3.66 kWh. When compared, the current scooters have a battery capacity with a size of 2.9 kWh. The new battery weighs 19 kgs and is Nickel Cobalt-based. The claimed range is now 146 km. There is also another variant which will sit below. It will have the same battery capacity but will be locked via software. This variant would have a riding range of 108 km.

There would be several riding modes on offer. There will be Eco, Warp, Sport, Smart Eco and Ride. The Smart Eco mode was recently introduced to the current scooter. It delivers a balance between Sport and Eco mode.

As of now, we do not know what will be the prices of the new scooters nor do we know if Ather will make any design changes to the scooters. However, we can expect some changes to the paint schemes at least because that will help in differentiating the new scooters from the current ones.

Ather 450+ and 450X

As of now, Ather sells 450+ and 450X in the Indian market. The 450+ comes with a 5.4 kW electric motor that is capable of delivering 22 Nm of peak torque. It has a battery capacity of 2.9 kWh but the rider can only use 2.23 kWh. It has a TrueRange of 60 km in Ride mode and 70 km in Eco mode. The 450+ can hit 40 kmph in 3.9 seconds.

On the other hand, the 450X comes with a 6 kW electric motor that is capable of delivering 26 Nm of peak torque. It can hit 40 kmph in 3.3 seconds. The TrueRange of the 450X in Ride mode is 70 km and in Eco mode is 85 km. The battery capacity is the same at 2.9 kWh but the usable capacity is increased to 2.6 kWh.

The 450X also gets some additional features such as the Warp riding mode. It also gets Bluetooth connectivity, music control and call control. Ather also offers welcome light but that has not been implemented as of now. There is also support for Smart Accessories. You can get Tyre Pressure Monitoring System as of now.

Both the scooters can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 3 hours and 35 minutes. If you want to charge it up to 100 percent then it would take 5 hours 45 minutes. The rest of the equipment on offer is the same.

Both scooters come with a belt drive that transfers the power to the rear wheel. There are 12-inch alloy wheels in the front and the rear with tubeless tyres. Ather also offers a combined braking system and regenerative braking. Braking duties are done by a 200 mm disc in the front and a 190 mm disc at the rear.

There is a 7-inch LED touchscreen that has onboard navigation. All the lighting elements on the Ather are LEDs. There is also a reverse assist feature. The scooter can receive OTA updates and there is also a mobile application.
