Honda City can be considered as one of the most successful sedan in the Indian market. The sedan offers great mileage along with attractive features for its segment. Honda City last received an update in 2020 and the company (Honda) is giving the sedan a major update this year. Honda City is officially launching tomorrow in a new avatar and it will be a hybrid sedan rather than a regular sedan.
The Honda City Hybrid is expected to be better than its predecessor. The Honda City Hybrid will be powered by two electric motors which will combine and produce electricity and power the car. The electric motors are paired with the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine generates a power of 98 hp. However, when it is paired with the electric motor the combined power is 109 hp. The total torque of the sedan will be around 250 Nm.
The fuel efficiency of the current generation of Honda City is 25-26 kmpl (ARAI). The Hybrid edition of the Honda City is expected to offer at least more than 20 kmpl. The tank size of the sedan is 40 litres. This means that we can expect a range of around 1000 km with a full tank. However, we should take the fact into consideration that due to the addition of electric motors in the Honda City Hybrid the overall weight has gone up by more than 100kg (as compared to the current model).
When it comes to cabin features, the Honda City Hybrid will get cruise control along with ADAS features. We hope that the sedan is as feature-rich as its rivals. The nearest rivals of the Honda City Hybrid are Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna.
The Honda City Hybrid will be more expensive than the regular Honda City. The Honda City 5th generation starts at Rs 11.29 lakh ex-showroom in New Delhi. However, we expect that the Hybrid City will cost around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) when it launches in India.
