1981 model Ambassador with modifications looks retro modern

Hindustan Ambassador is a car that is close to the heart of many car lovers. It was the first car to be ever manufactured in India. It soon became a status symbol among rich families and also carried politicians and senior government officials for years. Ambassador was discontinued from the market in 2014 and is not available for sale anymore. Even today, there are several well-maintained examples of Hindustan Ambassador cars in India. Some of them have kept the car original while many have modified or customised it to make it more convenient for them. Here we have one such Mark 4 Ambassador that gets modifications worth Rs 8 lakh in it.

The video has been uploaded by Mangalore based custom house, kamcustoms on their YouTube channel. It looks like the theme here was to give the Ambassador a retro modern look. First thing that one would notice on this Ambassador is the custom paint job. The front grille of the Ambassador now gets Ambassador lettering on it which looks good on the car. The halogen headlamps have been replaced with aftermarket LED units which come with ring type LED DRLs that also become turn indicators. The round turn indicator below that is now LED as well.

The bumper has been slightly revised and it now comes with an LED fog lamp integrated in it. The nickel plated bumper on the car has been retained. Coming to the side profile, the steel rims have been replaced with aftermarket alloy wheels. The stock ORVMs on the Ambassador have been replaced with an electrically adjustable and foldable ORVM. The door handles remain stock but the car now gets central locking feature. The boot gets the chrome garnish and the tail gate has been customised. The tail lamps are now LED units and the bumper gets the nickel plating.

Moving in, the car gets several customisation like a custom made or fabricated dashboard. The car get leather upholstery on all seats, door panels and some parts of the dashboard. Coming to the seats, the original seats on this Ambassador have been replaced. The car now gets electrically adjustable seats from Skoda at the front. The rear also get captain seats. The car now offers power windows, Air conditioning, ambient lights and many more features. The original steering wheel has been replaced with a unit from Mahindra Scorpio. It however gets HM logo on it. The car also gets Push button start feature.

There is an aftermarket touchscreen infotainment system from Pioneer installed on it. A set of 4 speakers and sub-woofer has been installed in the car for an improved audio experience. The car now gets cable operated fuel lid opener. One of the main update on this Hindustan Ambassador is the engine itself. The Ambassador seen here in the video started its life as a petrol vehicle. The petrol engine was replaced for an Isuzu diesel engine. The car also gets ARC composite Leaf spring with Gas shocks. Overall, the car looks neat and looks modern without losing its retro character.
