Kia EV6 is set to launch in the Indian electric car market on June 2, and upon arrival, it will compete with the new BMW i4

BMW recently launched the i4 electric sedan in India, and it is quite an exciting product. The new BMW EV offers a lot of impressive features and equipment, and it boasts of the highest driving range of all electric vehicles currently on sale in India. BMW i4 currently has no rivals in our market, but the upcoming Kia EV6 will be an indirect competitor to it.

Here, we briefly compare the spec sheets of the newly-arrived BMW i4 and the soon-to-launch Kia EV6.

Features and equipment

BMW i4 gets a two-screen setup on the dashboard, consisting of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Other than that, the car also gets three-zone climate control, electric sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, wireless smartphone charging, ambient cabin lighting, 360-degree parking camera, reverse parking assist, connected car tech, etc.

In terms of equipment, both the vehicles are neck-to-neck, but Kia EV6 is slightly more practical, thanks to ventilated seats. The BMW electric sedan has a more luxurious cabin though, and of course, the BMW badge itself is worth a lot.

Powertrain specifications

BMW i4 is available in a single variant in the Indian market – eDrive 40. It gets a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, rated at 340 PS of peak power. The motor derives power from an 80.7 kWh battery pack.

Kia EV6, on the other hand, will be available in two variants – GT-Line and GT-Line AWD. The standard (RWD) variant gets a single electric motor on the rear axle, while the AWD variant gets two motors, one on each axle.

Thanks to the larger battery, BMW i4 offers a better driving range than Kia EV6. However, in the real world, both vehicles will be practical enough for daily commuting as well as the occasional weekend trip.

Price

BMW i4 is priced at Rs. 69.90 lakh, which puts it in the same price range as BMW 5-series in the Indian market. As for Kia EV6, its official prices are under wraps right now, but as per speculations, it will be priced around Rs. 60 lakh (all prices mentioned are ex-showroom). While the Kia brand doesn’t have the same pull as BMW, we believe that EV6 will surely find a lot of takers.
