Tata Motors is ready to give mid-life updates to its two popular electric cars – Nexon EV and Tigor EV. Both models are likely to hit roads in coming months. Recently, a test mule of the 2022 Tata Tigor EV was spotted testing with heavy camouflage covering its design details. Though, it’s likely to receive minor upgrades inside and out. If reports are to be believed, the new Tigor EV will come with bigger capacity battery pack offering longer range than the existing model. The latter comes with Tata’s Ziptron electric powertrain including a 26kWh lithium-ion battery pack and electric motor.
The updated Ziptron technology is likely to be introduced on the 2022 Tata Nexon EV facelift. The new Tigor EV is reported to deliver range of 375km – 400km on a single charge. The existing model offers a claimed range of 36km. In order to accommodate the bigger battery pack, the automaker might make a few changes to its floor pan. The electric sedan is likely to come with updated suspension system increasing its overall weight and ground clearance.
With improved range and design, the 2022 Tata Tigor EV is likely to witness a minor price hike. At present, the electric sedan comes in four variants – XE, XM, XZ+ and XZ+ Dual-tone – priced at Rs 11.99 lakh, Rs 12.74 lakh, Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 13.14 lakh respectively. All aforementioned prices are ex-showroom.
In other updates, the home-grown automaker is ready to bring in the petrol version of the Tata Harrier and Safari SUVs. Both models are likely to come with a new 1.6L turbocharged DI engine delivering power close to 160bhp and 250Nm of torque. After the Altroz DCT, the company will introduce its new dual-clutch automatic gearbox on the Tata Nexon model lineup. The automaker also aims to expand its electric vehicle (EV) product portfolio in coming years.
