2022 Mahindra Scorpio spotted alongside Ford Endeavour [Video]
[ad_1]
The new generation of Mahindra Scorpio is one of the most anticipated launches of 2022. The launch date of the upcoming SUV is not yet confirmed nor Mahindra has released any teasers of the 2022 Scorpio. However, there have been plenty of sightings of the test mules. Now, the 2022 Scorpio has been spotted alongside the Ford Endeavour. We think that the Scorpio Facelift can launch on 2nd October just like Mahindra did with the Thar and the XUV700.
The video is uploaded on YouTube by Cardrive. In the video, we can see three test mules of the 2022 Scorpio and there is also a Ford Endeavour parked on the side. From some angles, the Scorpio looks bigger and has more road presence than the Ford Endeavour.

Scorpio will be much larger
The new generation of Scorpio will be much larger than the current generation of Scorpio. This is quite clear if we look at the previous spy shots of the SUV. Larger dimensions mean there should be more space for the occupants also. Mahindra has retained the boxy shape which gives 2022 Scorpio a very rugged look. The new Scorpio does have more road presence than the current version. Having said that, it is expected that Mahindra will not discontinue the current Scorpio, it will be sold alongside the new generation.
Still a ladder-frame chassis
Mahindra will still be using a ladder-frame chassis for the 2022 Scorpio. However, it is expected to be a reworked version of the body-on-frame chassis just like Mahindra did with the Thar. This should help in improving the ride comfort and handling of the SUV. However, do not expect a very comfortable and supple ride quality because, at the end of the day, it is still a SUV based on a ladder-frame chassis.
Engine and gearbox
Mahindra will offer the 2022 Scorpio with a petrol as well as diesel engine. There will be 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both the engines are already doing duty on the XUV700 and Thar. However, Mahindra will retune the engine to suit the requirements of the Scorpio Facelift.
The diesel engine will be offered in two states of tune, just like Mahindra is doing with the XUV700. This would help them price the SUV aggressively. In the lower state of tune, the diesel engine will produce 130 bhp of max power whereas, in the higher state of tune, the engine would produce 160-170 bhp. The base tune will produce a 6-speed manual gearbox whereas the higher state of tune will produce a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The power outputs of the petrol engine are not known yet. However, we are expecting them to be somewhere around 160-170 bhp considering the Thar produces 150 PS and the new Scorpio is a much larger vehicle.
Mahindra would also offer a proper 4×4 system with the Scorpio. It would also have a low-range gearbox and there would be different terrain modes. The different modes would allow a specific amount of slip and adjust the torque distribution according to the mode.
