2022 Mahindra Scorpio teaser – What was teased?

After weeks of speculation, Mahindra has finally posted the first teaser of the new Scorpio. So what has Mahindra revealed in the teaser? At the end of the video, we see the initial glimpses of the new Scorpio. We can see the C-shaped DRLs placed on the bumpers and LED headlamps that we had confirmed long ago. Mahindra is labelling the new Scorpio (codenamed Z101) as the ‘Big Daddy of SUVs’. The Z101 has been designed in Mahindra India Design Studio in Mumbai and engineered at the facilities of Mahindra research valley in Chennai. With the 2022 Scorpio, the brand is planning to take on the complete D-segment of cars which includes SUVs starting from Tata Harrier to Volkswagen Tiguan and sedans like Skoda Octavia.

Just a few hours back, Anand Mahindra gave a witty response to one Twitter user who asked him regarding new Scorpio’s launch date. Mahindra not only tackled the question smartly but also came up with a witty reply. In response to the user’s question, Anand Mahindra replied, ‘Sshhhh. If I tell you, I’ll be fired… But I can say this much..I’m as excited as you are…’.. However, nobody could have expected that the first teaser would be just a couple of hours away from this very tweet.

Design

What you see above is the Scorpio’s first images from Mahindra’s official website. We can clearly see that the new Scorpio will come with LED projector headlamps for low beam and LED lamps for high beam. Slanting LED indicators will be integrated below the main headlamp setup. We can also see LED fog lamps in the image. The fog lamp housing is surrounded by LED DRLs.

The Scorpio will get a complete design makeover over the current model. It will be based on the new ladder-on-frame chassis that underpins the new Thar. Other design changes will include a new front grille and LED tail lamps. In the interior, we have a new dashboard layout with leather seats. The new Scorpio will come with six and seven-seater options.

Features

Mahindra will load the Scorpio with a lot of new features. Spy shots of the Scorpio have revealed some features that we can expect. It will get a big infotainment system, steering mounted controls, an electric sunroof, connected car technology, rear-disc brakes and connected car technology.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio Powertrains

So what engines will the big daddy of SUVs come with? We expect it to come with the same engine options as the XUV700 and the Thar. It could come with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. We expect Mahindra to offer manual and automatic gearbox options on the Scorpio as well along with a 4X4 drivetrain.
